3rd Tenkaichi Bending-kai | Preliminary Round | Match 5 – [#9] Trace vs. [#22] Leilani

“Hello folks, and welcome to the second annual Tenkaichi Bending-Kai Tournament's First Preliminary Match!” The announcer said into his microphone, the noise blasting over the roaring crowd. The battle would take place in a circular Ba Sing Se arena, which had pools of water around the edges, as well as a pit of magma in the middle, surrounded by a pool of water. While there would normally be more tricks and traps set up, they were disabled for the preliminaries.

“Today, we'll be witnessing the fierce battle between Trace Nightshadow and Leilani Ezofuji-no-Susano'o. The gates will open on my mark. With the combatants set, and the battlefield ready for them, let's give them a warm welcome!”

Trace Nightshadow smiled her typical tomboy grin as she moved slowly forward. Leilani stood across from her and pure enjoyment filled Trace's heart. She couldn't wait for the lay-on to be called, as Mr.ShowBiz always seemed to take his good old time annouceing the same stuff every time. With a bow that was filled with more mannerisms of a gentleman than that of a lady, she watched Mr. ShowBiz until the favorited words left his mouth.

Then she leapt. Throwing different bits of earth pellets at Leilani, rock solid about the size of a quarter, as she began to race for the true center of the arena, right where Mr. ShowBiz had just been standing.

Leilani was here for three reasons: 1. To find her sister and bring her home. 2. To see her distant cousins that she hadn't seen in a long time. 3. To win. Of course, her first few minutes here weren't working so well for that. Leilani tried to dodge the flying bits of Earth, rock and stone that kept flying at her. She dodged a few, many hit her in the back, sides or chest. Leilani gained a few cuts, scratches, several bruises, a bruised rib, and was knocked to the ground.

Leilani gritted her teeth and stood back up, looking towards her opponent. Okay, time to get serious. Using her Dark Bending, she gathered twelve spinning balls of dark matter that circled around parallel to her back, as she held out her arm, the balls travelled down the length of her arm in single-file and shot themselves towards Trace.

Trace ran forward, her sprint taking her directly into the attack as it came. She watched with wonder as the dark matter began to form in to balls and slam into her. Falling back just slightly, she cursed under her breath before slamming into the ground. Almost instantly, a 10 foot wall rose in front of her opponent and began to rush toward them.

The wall was easy to avoid. It was tall, but it was not wide. Leilani managed to avoid it by going around it. Once she had she had a clear view of her opponent. She was an Earth Bender, and most Earth Benders fought long range. They liked sitting on the sidelines and chucking rocks at anything that moved. So uncivilized. Earth Bending lacked refinement, it lacked finesse and grace. It was just a bunch of sweaty people chucking big rocks back and forth. There was no art there.

Dark Bending however, that was art. It was a combination of long, mid and close range fighting. One could create anything from the dark matter of Dark Bending. One could bend the shadows to your will. You could make tendrils of darkness to attack your opponent like so many angry vines. The tendrils could stab and sew. You could perform surgery and sew cuts together with them. You could make knives and swords and any kind of weapon you want. That was art. So, Leilani created two hatchets of darkness, rushed at chase, and began taking swings at her body.

Trace moved quickly, pulling earth from the ground as she stood. Without thinking of design or decoration, she quickly forged a pair hardened stone glove around her hands to create gauntlets to hold the 3 foot stone sword that formed out of them. Stepping into Leilani's attack, Trace rose her arms to catch the hatchets with the gauntlets before striking downwards with full impact of the sword's blade. She smiled as her blade eased through the motions and began to fall down toward Leilani's head, headed for a killing strike. Can't kill anyone here. Trace thought as she adjusted the angle and struck for Leilani's right shoulder instead.
