Getting to Omashu was easier than Ba'sill expected, especially since he was toting around the narcoleptic (among other things) Northern Water Tribe prince, Roman Kinori Leiheng. Once he'd rescued Roman from his assassination attempt, the boy was being infuriatingly more talkative than he remembered. Wasn't he supposed to be quiet?
The seven-year-old gave a short cry of glee seeing all the different colors and shops surrounding him. He was sitting in a wagon Darin rolled along by himself, possessing more than the necessary strength it took to drag the younger, smaller boy around. The sight of the two together, out in the open and obviously unsupervised, turned a few heads. Darin was surprised Roman's shock of blue hair didn't tip them off to the authorities yet.
Gosh. Anuk really wanted this kid dead, he thought.
"Aren't you starving?" Darin asked. "Let's see if we can find somewhere to eat."
Roman nodded, although he looked sick at the mere prospect of eating.
"You gotta eat," the eleven-year-old insisted. "Or else you'll never go from being dəri və sümük (skin and bones)."
The younger kid huffed, throwing Darin a look that said he clearly didn't understand the latter half of what the older boy had said. Assuming he'd broken off into another language again, Ba'sill gave it another try:
"I'm serious."
Roman still seemed nonplussed, but his expression guaranteed that he would at least attempt to eat. Ba'sill glanced helplessly around, looking for anyone that'd be willing to help them. The eleven-year-old had never been to Omashu before, so despite his intellectually advanced mind, he had no idea where the hell he was. | |
