Yami Sentoki
"Everyone has their inner demons. Mine are just more literal." Yami gazed at the building before her. It looked like a palace, large and grand with its spiraling towers reaching into the clouds. From its position in the mountains, it overlooked a beautiful Earth Kingdom valley below. Yami knew there were thousands of people down there milling about, going about their everyday lives. She wondered if any of them ever looked up to bask in the glory of the library, or if it was so commonplace that nobody paid it much mind anymore.
She shivered, pulling her cloak around her. The air was thinner up here, and colder. She was aware that inside the library would likely be incredibly cold due to the vast open rooms and the altitude and had brought a thicker cloak than usual to combat the cold. She was thankful for it as the wind threatened to throw her over the edge of the cliff.
With one last look at the valley, she turned to face the library once more, pushing against the wind to the door. Once she was close enough to the library, the wind was no longer a problem, as the massive building blocked it. She pulled her hood back and examined the large ornate door. She wondered if there were still grains of sand within the cracks and crevasses of the walls. She knew this library had once been buried in the sand out in the deserts before the spirit Dara took over for Wan Shi Tong.
Yami had heard that Dara was among the more amiable of the spirits that chose to walk among men, but she knew better than to let her guard down. She considered that Dara might be able to sense the demon residing within Yami and treat her coldly just as it should.
Taking a deep breath, Yami pushed the doors open. She had a mission here and was going to fulfill it whether she was kicked out or not.
A large owl flew down from some unseen balcony many stories up and landed before Yami. "Welcome to my library," the spirit said. Or rather, the spirit thought. Spirits didn't necessarily communicate through talking, choosing instead to speak telepathically. "Do you have any knowledge you wish to share with me?"
Yami reached into her bag and pulled out a scroll. It had seen some wear since she'd been on the road, but the ink was still fairly fresh and the text was dark.
"I bring this scroll. I have filled it with knowledge of a new style of bending I have developed by combining water and fire bending. I call it vapor bending.""Is this the only copy of the transcript you possess?"
"No, I have one other scroll for personal use.""Very good." Dara reached out her wing and took the scroll Yami held out to it. "You are free to roam about the library. If you need any assistance, the foxes will guide you."
Yami stepped towards the spirit as it turned to fly away.
"Wait. Don't I get some sort of compensation for sharing my work?""We shall see, young wanderer. I'll have to examine the scroll and determine whether or not your words are legitimate, legible, and of course, grammatically incorrect. Once I have made any necessary corrections, since I'm assuming you have very limited writing knowledge, then I will send a fox with your compensation."
"Thank you." Yami bowed and the owl flew away.
